Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort Spa Gainey Ranch

We were not notified by trip.com that this resort was under construction. It was actually shocking that they allowed people to stay here during construction and we felt unsafe in many ways. There was dry wall dust all over that we were likely breathing in. It was a maze to get your room and construction noise at 6am along with the most awkward dining experience in a makeshift restaurant.

This is our go to place for our annual staycation during the summer. It's a wonderful resort. They have wonderful pools. They also have an "adult only" pool if you want to relax away from the kiddos. To add to our wonderful experience was the Bird Man from Liberty Wildlife. On the 4th of July he had Aurora, a huge beautiful female bald eagle. You are able to take a picture with Aurora and as she is lifted up behind you she spreads her gorgeous wings! On other days he might have a hawk or an owl. The live band in the pm was fun too! The picture I posted here of the Bird Man is from Google. The eagle he is with is beautiful, but not Aurora. 💜

Arrived to find that the hotel is undergoing major reconstruction It was a dusty noisy construction site In our opinion uninhabitable and unsafe Surprisingly they still offered us our room, but the restaurant was closed and amenities were unavailable They offered no discount, but they offered the amazing offer of free cancellation and rebooking, by ourselves, somewhere else. As we booked through a third party agent , we had to contact them , to ting them back in order to cancel it. Hyatt said it was the third party agent who was at fault as they should have told us, and there was a note on Hyatts website. Our agent said they had no knowledge of the building works. Stay away from this place.

I knew the property would be under renovation due to the multiple emails about it leading up to my stay but I did not know that it would be *this* bad. The first room I received reeked of toxic paint fumes so they assigned me a different room. Fortunately the second room did not smell toxic, yet, it was located in another tower, which I had to go up to the fourth floor / across / then back down to the third floor to get to. Trying to figure out how to get from the lobby to the room to their little makeshift temporary restaurant made me feel like a rat in a lab experiment. So bad. Not to mention the construction guys’ banging and hooting and hollering started outside my room door at 6:30AM!!! So I went down to the “restaurant”, where i was subjected to more continued banging, as I sipped my morning coffee with a live insect floating in it. The sink drain in my room did not function properly. And my card key stopped working mid-stay, leaving me stranded in the hallway: yet another inconvenience in the string of inconveniences that was this abysmal stay. I’m told that the construction is going on here for another five weeks and I would suggest you STEER CLEAR.

When we checked in our room was hot, 85 degrees. We assumed it was because the curtains were left open so we shut them and turned the AC down on the thermostat and went to the pool. When we came back out to grab our son’s pool float an hour later we noticed the temp only decreased by half a degree. We went to the front desk at 5pm to let them know our AC was not working and they told us they would send up an engineer. By 6pm, while waiting with our infant son in a miserably hot room for an engineer who was not coming, we decided we needed to switch rooms- not only our comfort but for the safety of our baby. We went to the front desk to request a different room and they said that they were fully booked and that all they can do is offer us a fan. I was shocked that this was the scripted protocol for this situation. We proceeded to our room with 2 fans. We all took cold showers hoping for some relief. It is now midnight as I type this laying in this hot room. Our son has woken up multiple times crying drenched in sweat. We did not come prepared to camp this trip. This is absolutely unacceptable and dangerous. We cannot continue 2 more nights like this. IT MUST BE RESOLVED ASAP.

Really just an incredible hotel. The room was well appointed and very comfortable, the staff top notch, great food and the spa is wonderful. The pools are a wonder. The hotel is also in a fantastic location for anything you'd want to do in Scottsdale.

Check in: 1st room was view of parking lot and construction equipment; 2nd room we were just starting unpacking and they came and said we could only stay there one night because it was promised to someone else after that; 3rd room was great. Great patio w great view No bathrobes so requested; no wash cloths two days—had to ask for; 1st morning we requested they clean room when we left at 10 am. They said they’d get someone right up—Came back at 2 and still not clean. Finally someone came at 3 pm Our reservation stated “brand new dining concepts”—didn’t exist: Breakfast and dinner were in the conference room . Menu was same for lunch and dinner and very limited. Our last night, we were going to eat there and menu was even more limited--ended up going out for dinner. Not sure where the “bar/lounge” mentioned in literature was unless it’s one by pool.--yes, there's a bar but certainly not what anyone would call a loung. Wanted to go to 1st floor restaurant (this is actually the pool bar). Someone took us there by elevator but then had to go through the kitchen. Wanted to go to pool—had to go through kitchen. There was no elevator available to take you directly to pool or restaurant.. My husband has difficulty walking after ankle surgery. He cannot climb steps. We received notice that there were things not completed No mention that there is no elevator access to first floor to get to restaurant/bar/pool Lots of construction noise at 7:30 in morning even though they said they would do “quieter” work in early hours . Toilet wouldn’t flush first day No grab bar or seat/foot shelf in shower Banging coming from bathroom—recorded—one night. Had to call down twice before it stopped—this was at 6;30-7 at night Have to pay to have microwave in room—motel 6 would have a microwave Patio flooded one morning after short rain Very few directions on how to reach restaurants, pool No entertainment as previous visits Staff certainly tried to accommodate and were very pleasant

Housekeeping, restaurant availability, concierge were all quite disappointing and not up to usual Hyatt expectations. Hopefully this will improve once renovations have been completed. Plus there was a huge discrepancy in our bill at checkout!

Construction was non-stop and bar and restaurants remained closed weeks after there initial opening. No compensation for this inconvenience. They did move us after first room’s AC was broke. However, next room was next to the construction that started at 6:15am.
