What a super stay! My husband has mobility issues but the staff went above and beyond to ensure that his every need was met. We were delighted with Nightjar’s Rest, our easy access room with comfy beds and a large wet room. We enjoyed delicious meals, served by friendly staff. The hotel is spotlessly clean and bright, with quirky, high quality, original features. It is conveniently located near to parks and the university. I would highly recommend a stay here. Thank you!

Visited for dinner, where we were informed that the chef had called in sick. The food was beyond mediocre, our table endured a very depressing and uninspiring super salad as well as an uninviting ‘challenging to chew’ chicken burger. And what a lack lustre menu. What happened to this place, it’s all tired shabby chic and twinkly fairy lights, it’s like dining in a teenage girl’s bedroom. The menu used to be great, really tasty small plates that delivered, with a bright and breezy style of service. Come back the original owner who used to run this place with enthusiasm and style.

Sadly, despite 8 emails of which I have proof they have been read and ignored - my complaint about the excessive noise has not been dealt with. I had the absolute worst nights sleep when I stayed over for a business trip, having paid extra for a luxury suite - they have NOT dealt with previous complaints of noise either. Simple things like better glazing, curtains and extra blinds would help. Avoid this place like the plague if you value rest, and even more so if you expect good customer service. EIGHT emails I sent to try and resolve my complaint. Breakfast in a bag wasn't ready either, making me late for a meeting - when I got to my client found the croissant uncooked. So I wouldn't recommend that either. I never put bad reviews when things are dealt with, but having to send this many emails and to still be ignored is atrocious.

We booked for an Afternoon Tea with friends and family (14 of us) to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. The first issue was that we were put on a table that was totally inadequate for a party of our size. I did pass comment to the staff but no solution or alternative was offered. The food served for our afternoon tea was of good quality... the issue was that everyone (and I do mean everyone) left hungry.. there was too little of it especially savoury items eg sandwiches (1 x sandwich each). I commented to staff that I thought we hadn't had value for money ... no solution was offered. It wasn't something that I noticed at the time, but afterwards, several of our guests commented that we hadn't even been offered tea or coffee! Not great and it's unlikely we would return.

We had booked to have an Afternoon Tea for 2 for my 70th birthday. When we arrived there was just one other table who were finishing their lunch leaving us as the only customers. The food that arrived was enough for a whole day, not afternoon tea at all. There was soup, a BLT sandwich, a tomato and mozzarella salad with fish and chips followed by a chocolate mousse, carrot cake, a dark chocolate mousse, a chocolate chip scone and carrot cake. Meanwhile the tea arrived as a pot of hot water and a teabag. We were totally over faced with food and refused the fish and chips. There is no way this is afternoon tea and I was more than a bit disappointed. I was not offered any alternative to this massive amount of food. What is the management thinking? If they want to promote a themed tea that is ok but let the customers know what it comprises. Please offer a traditional afternoon tea if preferred. It’s a lot less work than what is on offer.

I came to the restaurant for a baby shower, as we arrived the service was clearly lacking. The rest of the restaurant was fairly quiet however non of the staff asked us if we wanted a drink, I had to go to the bar to ask them to take the orders for drinks. As the day continued we were never asked for drinks, if we needed anything and if we were happy. Then when our afternoon tea arrived which was £500 in total we had a small sandwich each and shared a small selections of cake, many of us asked for more food, which never arrived. We were completely ignored by staff the entire day and when the bill came we were charged wrong. I will never come back to this restaurant as it is clear they do not know what they are doing.

Probably the worst brunch I have ever had . Sat outside and the terrace felt quite unloved , very different the buzzed space it was a few years ago . Had maple ham eggs Benedict hardly any hollandaise sauce drenched in maple syrup and hard eggs no runny yokes. Muffin was thin and hard . My daughter's smashed avocado was not much better 1 tiny piece of toast very ordinary. Said that we weren't satisfied but no price reduction was offered and at £16 per plate felt a complete rip off . So left with a £50 bill with 2 coffees and 2 juices . Won't be returning

We held our wedding celebration here and all it was totally what we hoped it would be. We went for the banquet option and the food was superb & service great, could not find one fault thing. All of our guests, including the vegetarians, praised the high standard of the food. Having exclusive use of the terrace throughout the evening also made for a great day. For a small wedding celebration we could not recommend this venue enough, we'd seen some of the recent reviews so to be honest we had some concerns leading up to it but everything was perfect. All staff were great so special thanks to Tom & Jack & the rest of the team for making everything so perfect.
