Taschler Haus

We were warmly welcomed as a family into Taschler Haus for our six night stay starting 9th July 24. A complimentary small bottle of home made cherry liquor awaited in our room as an arrival gift. We also found plentiful amounts of coffee and tea, bottles of water in the fridge and toiletries in the bath room, all of which were replenished daily. Our room was a suite on the second floor consisting of two single beds in a living/ sleeping area, a double bedroom and bathroom. The suite was immaculately maintained and decorated with rustic German influenced paintings, rugs, furniture and some ornimants. Breakfast is simple but perfect - a small buffet of fresh croissants collected daily by the owners from the local bakery, water melon, yoghurts and coffee. Some cereals and bread for toast were also available with preserves. We loved sitting in the court yard each morning enjoying a slow relaxing breakfast whilst admiring the spectacular architecture of Sighişoara. Taschler Haus is within the UNESCO protected Citidel of Sighişoara; the building is protected and therefore retains many original features that add to its charm and unique character, but it does mean however taking care on worn stone stairways and cobbled courtyards. There is no car park at the hotel, but cars can be driven to Taschler Haus for unloading and loading of bags, and parked in a nearby (5 minute walk) hotel free of charge by local agreement. We knew from the hotel description before booking and from our correspondence with the owners during our booking process what to expect regarding the accessibility of the hotel, parking and breakfast, and must say expectations were fully met in every way. I would recommend you stay at this hotel if you seek individuality, a place that can be a bit tricky to navigate underfoot, are prepared to leave your car more than a few meters from your bed, and are happy to settle for a relaxing simple breakfast. If you're happy to settle for this, a very warm welcome awaits in a hotel that is unique, clean, comfortable and right in the heart of Sighişoara. This is really is the ideal place to stay in Sighisoara in every respect. The location and character of the Taschler Haus are charming. We spent three nights there. The 'superior double' room was spacious, characterful, well-appointed and comfortable. Our host was most welcoming and made suitable arrangements for our arrival by car: after drop off at the front door, free parking nearby was arranged. We very much enjoyed meeting him and getting to know him a little bit. He has done a great job on researching the history of the house and creating what amounts to a small museum. The 'Day start' scaled-back breakfast was more than sufficient for our purposes and saved having to venture out for breakfast. Whole-heartedly recommended in all respects!

Taschler Haus is a real gem! We only spent one night there and wish we could have stayed another. The building is beautiful and each room is dedicated to a guild. Very tasteful and with attention to detail. The owners are amazing as well making sure all needs are taken care of. It's perfectly located to explore old town on foot.

We stayed here for 4 days in October and highly recommend this guesthouse. The room was spacious and well appointed. It was very clean and obviously well cared for and maintained. Although they don’t advertise breakfast, the coffee/tea, croissants, yogurt, cereal and fruit they provide is more than sufficient for most of us. The croissants were fresh daily and the granola was substantial….lots of fruits and nuts. The guesthouse is well located. We could walk everywhere but you need to go uphill to get to the old town. As well, the guesthouse doesn’t have an elevator. Be prepared to carry your bags up three flights. This is a great place to stay. We couldn’t find fault with anything.

We arrived to check in a bit later in the evening, and the hosts were still personally available to check us in and immediately made us feel welcome, especially after a long day of travel. They brought us to our room, gave us a map of all the nearby sightseeing, provided complimentary water bottles, and eve n homemade cherry liquor (which was amazing)! The room was cozy, clean, and had all the amenities you could ever think to need. The back patio/garden area has an amazing view of the Clock Tower as well, which added to our experience - the location is unbeatable, mere footsteps from the main areas of Sighisoara. We wish we could have stayed longer and we will recommend this to anyone headed that way!

As always, we picked this place for its location. And boy, did we get that and much, much more. The location is perfect. Very close to the citadel, yet not in the middle of all of it. Parking is available close by (the hosts will guide you). Our room was clean and had everything we needed. Jan and Silvia provided a great deal of "extras" during our too short stay. For instance, they don't offer breakfast, but instead they had something they called "Day start", which was really a breakfast, less hot stuff like eggs etc. This day start was everything we needed in the morning. In addition, they had put a small bottle of cherry liquor in our room to enjoy. This is a unique place, run by dedicated hosts. If I ever return to Sighisoara, I will definitely stay here again. I rarely feel that I want to stay in a certain hotel one more night. This time I did.

If you ever come to Sighisoara and decide to stay at Taschler Haus, make sure you have one extra day to simply enjoy this accommodation. It doesn't often happen that you regret leaving your accommodation to visit the city. We woke up in the morning in the quiet of the house with the sun in the window, had our tasty morning snack at beautifully set tables under old vaults, spent an evening in the courtyard surrounded by flowers and trees under the silhouette of the Clock Tower, and we greatly enjoyed our unique and impeccable apartment. This was one of the best accommodations I've ever had. If you come to Sighisoara, not staying at Taschler Haus seems to be denying yourself an incomparable experience that I doubt you could replicate elsewhere. It was very difficult for me to break away from Taschler Haus, and I stayed until the very last moment to enjoy this fantastic experience. The location is excellent, close to everything we wanted to visit, and the generous, responsive and communicative host solves all your problems before you even know you have them - from parking to where to dine. The American tourists I arrived with, who have some serious experience as international travelers, were amazed and continue to talk about Taschler Haus today. It would be a pity to pass up on this experience that makes you feel Sighisoara rather than just see it.
