We recently stayed at the Sandman Hotel in Smithers, BC, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We had paid for and reserved a room with a king-sized bed, but upon arrival, we were given a room with a queen-sized bed instead. Since it was the weekend of the fall fair and other accommodations in the area were fully booked, we had no choice but to stay. Traveling with an infant, we didn't have the time or flexibility to find alternative lodging as our baby needed to go to bed. As a family that bed-shares, this situation was uncomfortable. A queen-sized bed is nearly a foot and a half smaller than a king-sized bed, and this drastically affected the quality of our stay. The front desk staff did her best to help us with the resolution. She was friendly and did the best she could within the power she had, but the overall management of the situation was highly disappointing. On the evening of our stay we emailed hotel management on August 23rd to express our disappointment. To their credit, on August 26th, a manager reached out to us. The manager was respectful, acknowledged the difficulties we faced during our stay, and took the time to listen to our concerns. As a gesture of goodwill, they offered us a $100 credit to our RSVP rewards account. While the initial experience was far from what we had hoped for, the respectful response from the management did help to bring some closure to the situation. We appreciate the effort they made to address our concerns and offer compensation, which somewhat alleviated the disappointment we felt.
