Hostel Mostel Sofia

The worst place you could ever go. Unprofessional in terms of cleaness: they spray substances in the dorm to kill cockroach, that make people sick (diarrea or vomit) and don't tell you it's the stuff they spray. Their way of work is unethical in many other senses: they allow consumption, and some very immoral behaviours towards women. I don't think they should be allowed to be called a hostel. Many other definitions would define this place for what it really is.

A fairly comfortable stay was at the "suites part" of this hostel (at about a 5-minute walk from the "main part" with their dorm rooms), and yes although just being a basic suite was one with an ensuite bathroom & toiletries (and also some "common area" outside the suites). And located at a city-center area (right around the Macedonia Square), some nice places to eat in the vicinity are: the regular traditional restaurant just a few-minute walk to the right from the Hostel's "main door to the Square" (not open for dinner though), the Turkish restaurant across the Square and a little to the left (open late for dinner), and the small pastry shop called King's Bakery to the left from the Hostel's "main door" followed by another left by just going out of the Square slightly (good for breakfast with also seats inside). And yes, with a can't-miss "tram stop" right in the middle of the Square, kind of inconvenient though was not being able to buy tickets at the kiosk-office there, so I had to walk all the way to the big Sofia Central Station and the tram stop in front of that station to buy my tickets from that kiosk-office and board the trams at that stop (for going to the sites such as National History Museum & Boyana Church on like the outskirts of the city) although the "return tram" dropped me off right at the Macedonia Square with yes a few-minute walk back to this hostel.

From the moment we arrived, the experience was a DISASTER. We were greeted not with warmth, but by a shockingly rude staff member who, in an almost threatening tone, told us we had exactly five minutes to check an email they’d sent. Not the kindness you expect from a hostel, just plain rudeness. Those five minutes led to our “reallocation”, not to another room, but to an annex five minutes away from the hostel itself. If the hostel was bad, this annex was something out of a horror movie. The entrance was crumbling, the stairs dangerously neglected, and the room was a disgrace. I'll let the description speak for itself. There were hairs in every single bed (a clear sign the sheets hadn’t been properly cleaned). The bathroom’s air filter looked like it hadn’t been touched in years. Even worse, the door between the bathroom and the bedroom was completely transparent. Yes, transparent! We were a group of five, forced to watch each other’s most private moments. The room had just one fan for all five of us, despite the sweltering summer heat. Sleeping was nearly impossible. The beds were old, unstable, and unsafe, with deep cracks underneath that made us feel as though they might collapse at any moment. And to crown it all, right at the entrance there was an appalling piece of ****** graffiti left there for everyone to see, unaddressed and unremoved. This place is not just poorly managed. It is unsafe, unsanitary, and utterly disrespectful to its guests. This place might've had its days, many years ago. But for now, do yourself a favor: stay far, far away.

Pretty good experience. The employee Julien was super cool and led an great bar crawl. We went to so many places that were invisible from the street but had amazing atmosphere inside. Thank you to him for letting me keep my luggage There while I was out for a day.

Very cosy place, very friendly. value for price. very nice people and very helpful. nice breakfast, clean place. also, i forgot my headphones when i left on my way to the bus station and i asked them to arrange to bring them to me before my bus leaves and they did everything they could so i could get them back. I definitely recommend and I will definitely go back whenever i visit Sofia.

I had no place to sleep and very low budget: Hostel Mostel was the best thing I could ever wish for a last minute booking. The Team does a big effort to clean daily the rooms and provide all the assistance needed. People are very friendly. For a little extra there is all you can eat big Breakfast in the morning. I am writing daily in my diary the incredible people I am meeting. Hostel Mostel is a blessing for backpackers, travellers and for those in need of a warm cosy friendly space.

Lovely communal area and large rooms. I stayed at the second building but still felt very welcomed when visiting the social reception building. Owner and the guys running it were very responsive and helpful, get hostel to stay at would reccomend, good location

The 3 things keeping this place going are the staff who are genuinely excellent in terms of hospitality, the price...on certain days, and the location - aside from this, the place is getting really grubby. The Google pictures look so much nicer than it actually is now. There aren't enough showers....I counted 2 showers for the whole hostel and our room which was semi under construction was almost a literal sauna. The outside area under the veranda is filled with debris and trash and most of the railings are broken (and for which there is no excuse as cleaning and tidying doesn't cost any money, and even if it did it would be worth the investment). I've up-rated it 4/5 based on nostalgia and atmosphere as it is still the best backpacker hostel in town, however, with cheaper places in often more central locations and with better facilities, Hostel Mostel will lose out big time unless they pull their fingers out 😀👍🙏

The hostel is pretty good...very noisy...and the guests wreck the kitchen...awful. the bed was not that comfortable...I sunk in the middle. I did like the shower in the room and the bathrooms were great! The security is excellent! Ok..now for my BIG PROBLEM...Smoking...I am allergic to smoke and even though they did not smoke inside...they were smoking all around..in front of the doors, windows, staircase and the smoke stays inside. They should move the smoking area away from the front door and the room windows/balconies. I did not get to go sightseeing cuz I was in bed very ill, for 3 days...still sick! The guy staff were very helpful, at the front desk. Finally, they cleaned out the fridge!!
