Arrived to find the place locked up and with no signs of life anywhere - should have be suspicious at that point. A woman (the infamous 'Chris' we later found out) shouted down from an upstairs window to say she would let us in, then the first thing she did was to produce a card machine and ask for full payment for our booked stay whilst at the same time announcing the place would not be open that evening so no food would be available! She then showed us to our room via a musty, tired hallway. On entering the room she stood behind the door (all will be revealed!) and said the en-suite was behind another door and then left us to it. We could then see why she stood where she had - because behind the door - in the bedroom was a washbasin! We then couldn't believe it when we looked into the 'en-suite' - it was about 3 feet wide and 10 foot long! All it contained was a toilet at one end and a shower at the other - with no shower curtain between! The room window had a failed double glazed unit which was all misted up. By then we realised we had been badly misled (to put it very, very mildly) by the review ratings we had seen for the place and we should have left and demanded our money back there and then. However, for several personal reasons we didn't and decided to reluctantly accept we had landed up in a very poor establishment which seemed to be on its 'last legs'. Later that night when we lowered the roman blind the bottom concealed half was covered in black mould - absolutely disgusting! To cut a long story short - the cooked breakfast was OK, but no more than that. The place was virtually deserted and we were very glad to leave and put it behind us. We cannot, for a moment, believe all the high scoring reviews made for this place - they do seem to have a talent for including pictures of lovely meals and happy people in their advertising which was certainly nothing like our experience! Never, ever again will we be staying at The Balnoon!!!
