Was looking forward to this venue but maintenance is poor, rooms dirty. Had to kill a large cockroach in my daughter’s room as well as some spiders. Not what I expected from a lovely place as per the official website, needs some serious TLC to improve the experience

Just returned from a 4-night stay at Majeka House in Stellenbosch. While the property has potential and some bright spots, several issues prevented this from being the luxury experience we expected. Location: Somewhat Isolated Majeka House is located in a residential area of Stellenbosch, which has pros and cons: Pros: - Quiet neighborhood setting - Safe area with gated access Cons: 10-minute drive to Stellenbosch town center Not walkable to restaurants or attractions Limited views compared to other wine country properties Taxi/Uber required for dinner outings Rooms: Inconsistent Quality We stayed in a Premier Collection Room, which was spacious but showed signs of wear: - Comfortable king-sized bed - Large bathroom with separate tub - Decent-sized private terrace - Dated furnishings in need of updating - Several maintenance issues (slow draining shower, loose fixtures) - Air conditioning struggled to maintain consistent temperature - Limited storage space - Weak WiFi signal in room Staff: Variable Service Service levels fluctuated significantly during our stay ranging from very friendly to somewhat not bothered. Since we weren't staying for too long we ignored the unprofessional behaviour, but took note for our review. At Breakfast and Dinner there were very long waits for service, and housekeeping was inconsistent (missed turndown service twice). Concierge seemed to have limited knowledge about local attractions so had to use google and one thing that really stuck out was that it was sometimes difficult to find staff when needed. Dining: Hit and Miss The dining experience at Majeka House was varied, points that I noted include: - A Good wine list with local options (hey, we're in the wine zone so this should be a no brainer!) - A decent breakfast selection However, this did not come with shortcomings from the dinner menu which we found go be quite limited and overpriced for the quality. During Peak times the service seemed to grind to a halt or slow at best and breakfast items were not often replenished promptly. Though I'm not a vegetarian, I noticed that there were limited options for vegetarians. Facilities: Adequate But Underwhelming The location has a range of facilities to cater to your needs. These include: - Nice spa facility with good treatments - Pleasant pool area - Small but functional gym Again, there are areas that are in need of improvement which include: - Monitoring of pool temperature - Pool temperature was too cold for comfort for us during our stay. - Limited outdoor seating areas - Spa often fully booked - Garden areas need better maintenance Things to Do: The location provides access to various activities which include: - visiting the many wine estates in Stellenbosch - Easy access to Stellenbosch town (Uber is your friend) - Access to hiking trails Things to take note of when visiting this location in terms of getting around is that you'll need to get a taxi to get anywhere, there ar

The hotel is dated and in serious need of renovation. Our room door looked like something from 35 years ago. The WiFi is atrocious, drops out every 30 seconds. Breakfast we decided to skip because the cutlery on the table was dirty. I think we’re more disappointed because when you book a 5* you expect 5*, not 3*. Bar area is nice, gardens are well maintained.

Majeka House is a gem! Just outside of the busy Stellenbosch centre is this beautiful hotel. It has no less than 4 swimming pools, including a heated one which is open 24 hours (great for insomniacs like me!). The management and staff are all great! The room was spacious and private with a great outdoor area as well. I can highly recommend a stay here

What a disgusting hotel. I arrived in a room that had severe mould damage and smell. LOOK at my PHOTOS below—thick dust under the bed. The pool was not warm, and the jacuzzi was STILL out of order. Very Run down hotel with staff that never apologised once when approached about the severe mould and water damage. My 6 month old and wife had to try find a place after arriving late to this terrible room that they clearly thought was ok for a 5 star guest house. Who in their right mind has the audacity to expect people to sleep in a room like this. Not normal behaviour

Resposta da propriedade: Good Day. Thank you for your review, we value each and every review. We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the state of the room that you were allocated and apologize for the experience and inconvenience. We can assure you that this is not the way we want to portray the property to our guests, and I have investigated the sate of the room personally with our maintenance team. We have experienced heavy rain in the last week and this has subsequently added to the water damage inside the walls and this room specifically was affected heavily. The dust under the bed was discussed with our housekeeping team and they were instructed to make sure that this does not happen again. We are currently fixing the jacuzzi, that has a leak underneath the floorboard, which resulted in the repair company having to lift it out completely to find the fault. The inside heated pool will unfortunately loose heat when we have longer loadshedding periods, which was the case. We currently have inverter batteries for back up power but they cannot reheat the pool in time when the loadshedding stages reach 4 hours or more on a regular basis. We inform our guest accordingly before this happens if we get notified in time. I hope that we can welcome you back to Majeka House in the near future to showcase what the property is known for and should look like. Kind Regards, General Manager

Very enjoyable stay at Majeka House. The manager Vernon went out of his way to make our stay very memorable. If it was not for him our trip would have been less enjoyable as some of the spa facilities broke down during our visit. However all good in the end.

Majeka House doesn’t skimp on quality. Plush beds and fluffy pillows make for pleasant sleep in the veritable clouds, that’s for sure! Luxury also makes its way through Majeka’s decor and design, with stunning earth-toned tiling, heated shower rails, generously poured shower products in convenient and chic containers, and a decent coffee pod coffee machine to civilize your morning with a hot cup first thing! Family-friendly; with good accessibility considerations in rooms and common spaces, stunning surrounds, and one of the most diligent hospitality teams (from front-of-house to groundskeepers). It’s a petrol-blue furniture-dotted gem getting stronger in offerings, courteous and predictive service, and peace. Dinner at the in-house restaurant may veer on the side of hearty and familiar to local palates, but the breakfast and lunch offerings more than prove the kitchen has some unexpected delights to dig into (I definitely recommend the Poke Bowl!). For locals and globetrotters based abroad, this hotel is definitely the value-for-money find you rave about.

Majeka House gave us the warmest welcome upon arrival – much needed given we had arrived from Durban on the tail of the worst storm to hit Cape Town in years! The flight was bumpy, with an approach to Cape Town akin to a white-knuckle ride, and the drive in a hire car from the airport was tumultuous, with rain, high winds and uprooted trees to accompany us all the way to the sanctuary of Majeka House. From restaurant recommendations in Stellenbosch Old Town (a <10 minute uber away) to the friendly staff and amazing spa treatments, Majeka House is a stylish home-from-home hotel with amazing staff and beautiful touches throughout. Our garden room came with patio, table and chairs. The bedroom opened out onto a sublime shower and bathroom - a very intimate experience. Complimentary water is provided, as is tea and coffee, although our room was missing the coffee machine. Not much of an issue as room service is available and breakfast was served mere moments away. The breakfast was absolutely delicious - hot options, in addition to the most amazing continental buffet. We felt thoroughly spoilt. We also enjoyed the spa facilities - the husband concluded he had experienced the best Swedish massage EVER! My facial, massage and gel manicure were a heavenly escape and all very reasonably priced thanks to the excellent exchange rate. Thanks to everyone who made our stay so special, including Costa, who predided over the bar in the evening. We whiled away a few evenings in the quiet bar with watching Champions League football! Thank you all. We will return!

Small secluded lodge in a nice area of Stellenbosch. Creative an colorful interior, yet it has seen its best times. Especially the pool area would welcome a renewal. The room was nice. The bathroom flooring in the toilet and shower area does not meet sanitary expectations as the are wooden planks

It was ok overall, but ultimately not worth the money. My main gripe was really with how they handled a complaint of ours. During our stay the weather was hot which meant it was very uncomfortable sleeping at night without the air conditioning - on our final night the aircon started dripping water. We flagged this to reception but were told that the hotel was fully booked so our options were to try and sleep with a loud dripping noise or no aircon. Needles to say it was not a great night's sleep. I understand these things happen, but I don't see how a hotel can justify charging full price in a situation like this. We had already paid full in advance, but I felt a partial refund was warranted for the final night. I explained this, but could tell they didn't care. No sign of management willing to engage on the matter (just excuses as to why they weren't availableto speak to me) - ultimately it was clear they didn't care. At the end of the day it was relatively expensive to stay here. Staff are relatively polite, but the hotel is in need of modernising. There are a lot of hotels and guesthouses in the area, shop around and look for better value.

Resposta da propriedade: Good Day Thank you for your review, we value all feedback from our guests. We are sorry to hear that the aircon unit was not operating at full capacity, unfortunately mechanical units break without warning and as mentioned it was not possible to move you to another room because of the hotel being fully booked. We would have gladly moved you if we were able to as we do not want our guests to have a bad sleeping experience. With regards to management not being available to speak to you personally I will address this matter with the management team to ensure all guests need are attended to. Thank you for pointing out that our staff are polite as we strive to give the best service possible. Kind Regards, Hotel Management

I booked Majeka House for my husbands birthday. We arrived and found approximately 30-40 mosquitoes in our room. We were then offered another room which smelt of strong moth balls. The next morning our breakfast was served cold to us while we sat next to two dead cockroaches on the floor. We asked staff to remove them, when we checked up if they had been removed the staff members told us that there were no cockroaches found, however we went to check and they had in fact been removed, so we were made to feel like liars. It's not often I leave a bad review but our whole experience was absolutely shocking. I have since emailed the hotel three times to ask for a refund for our stay, and have not had a single reply. Absolutely unacceptable when I am paying close on R4000 for a five start hotel, we had to leave early and cancel our spa reservation with them because we wanted to get out. Not good enough.

We had a lovely stay at Majeka House, we loved our room with our private pool(a little to cold to go in :-) but made use of the heated pool at the main area of the hotel. The staff were so helpful offered to order Uber and wine-tasting during our stay. The food was fantastic, bar was lovely and cosy with a blazing fire. Only 10 minutes into the centre of Stellenbosch. Look forward to staying with you again in the future.

We had a very average stay at Majeka House in April this year while attending a 50th function of a friend of ours. They had no generator in place to accommodate guests with loadshedding and so as a result we had darkness on leaving in the evening and waking up in the morning, no tea or coffee was possible in our rooms, hairdrying for an event impossible and a very average breakfast as they could not make coffee or hot food. For the price of this hotel I would have expected a far better experience. WE woke in the morning to pouring rain and there were leaks all over the hotel, so clearly not well maintained at all. I don't think we will be staying there again in a hurry.
