I travel bi-weekly for business, and only stay at Hilton Properties. I booked this hotel as I had a meeting in this town and thought I would just spend the evening there. Upon arrival to check in, there was no one at the front desk, I rang the bell and could hear folks talking in the back. No one came out and rang it again. Still no one. About 5 mins later, a nice young lady, who was helping someone else came back and was very cordial and checked me in. It did take a bit because she answered the phone and was helping someone with a remote control issue in their room. She yelled to the back at someone to help with the remote. I get my key, go to the elevator and the elevator smelled like someone had an "accident" in there and there was a "Wet Floor" Caution sign in the corner of the elevator. I wasn't felling great about this so far. As I am heading down the hallway to my room, the carpets are dirty and it smells musty and moldy. I get in the room and immediately put my bag against the door, which I have never done in 5 years of staying in Hiltons. I am 5'6 and could touch the ceiling with my elbows still bent. The room was very moldy smelling. I put my backpack on the desk and left my roller on the floor and left for my meeting. Upon coming back, I decided that I just didn't feel safe. I always listen to my gut. I grabbed my backpack and roller and just left. I didn't go out the front, because, again single female traveling alone, there were a group of men in the lobby and I didn't want to cause a scene and feel more uncomfortable. I left out the side where my vehicle was parked and went to another town to spend the night. When I returned home from my trip, I contacted Hilton for maybe a refund and to just discuss the hotel in general. A case file was created and the hotel GM called me about 15 mins later and was very unhappy with me. She was not concerned with why I felt unsafe or why I wasn't happy. She told me she couldn't control my feelings and that everything she has shows I stayed in the room. She wasn't giving me my money back and she would check with her "Executive" housekeeper about if I stayed in my room. She also very accusatory asked why I waited 2 days to call Hilton, to which I advised her I travel for work and I got home late last night, which really didn't matter when I called Hilton. She was rude, accusatory, and very uninterested in trying to learn why a woman traveling alone felt unsafe in her hotel. I would avoid this place for all women traveling solo.
