The staff was really nice and we appreciated the snack bar since there is no supermarket around.
The room was czsy and warm.
You were in walking distance to the beach, some nice little tracks and could walk to the pancake rocks in about half an hour.

RATA house at Te Nikau is perhaps best for backpackers with the locks on bedroom doors and 3 floors but toilets all on ground floor with slippery steps. It could do with some money spent as very tired. The 3 old worn couches on the second floor have the springs gone & just filthy, one person said they felt like a shower after each sit down. Bent pool cue could be replaced. Skirting boards dirty. Nowhere to sit outside. No teaspoons, crockery limited in numbers & very secondhand chipped looking. No dishwasher or TV ( lucky it was good weather). Basic bedding & numerous beds in one hot area with 2 fans going. double beds in other. $430 per night for 4 adults, 3 children was more than pristine places in eg - Hanmer, Kaiteriteri etc. The immediate areas to explore are good.

This place was EXCELLENT value for money! It's a very close drive from the pancake rocks but also has access to another great track taking you down to a beach with amazing views. I stayed in a private room in a shared house, the kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could need. Bathrooms clean. And the bedroom was lovely and cozy, with windows overlooking the trees made you feel like you are really in the forest. Friendly staff and easy parking.

Stayed only one night in the Tui cottage. Really peaceful with a fantastic beach not far. No real issues with the accommodation but the 2 ring hob is showing its age and the kitchen window doesn’t fasten properly thereby letting in the sandflies. Otherwise we had a really great experience. Colin & Claire, Scotland

The different accommodation options here range through the most lovely bush. Before you accept your room, though, make sure it's OK. Unfortunately, the one we stayed in was very damp. The odour in the room was overpowering, and such dampness is not good for health, let alone conducive to a pleasant experience.

Lovely one night stay. So nice sleeping within the rainforest. We caught a super rainy day and wish we could’ve explored the beautiful property more. The room was nice. We slept listening to the rain come down. The shared lodge felt quiet and still private. Seemed a nice spot to connect with other travelers if you had more time while there.

A wonderful retreat and place to relax while exploring the area. The host was very friendly and accomodating. A communal living room area to chill and meet others was great. Had a quiet night sleep in The Stargazer, it was incredibly peaceful amongst the native New Zealand forest. Will be sure to be back for a third visit sometime in the future for sure!

Our stay in Mamaku cottage was very comfortable and Chris and Marley were very helpful. We enjoyed visiting Pancake Rocks, Trueman Track and the walk along the Porari River. The local hotel and cafe provide tasty evening meals and breakfast.

Te Nikau retreat is a small house hidden in the bush between Greymouth and Franz Joseph. The house is nothing special but perfect for someone wanting to get away from it all at a really good price in an exceptionally amazing setting. Would recommend it!

Ti Nikau was not quite what i expected. It’s more of a hostel type of place with quaint little places in the bush. We stayed in Mamuku cottage and noone was staying above us so it was nice and quiet. However it is very old and tired and needing some TLC. All the cutlery and crockery are mismatched and the floor felt gritty. The bed was comfortable. There is wifi if you can get it. Which we couldn’t, unless standing on the drive ( in the rain). It was ok for one night but honestly at $150 a night it was the dearest and worst place of our West Coast trip.
