The Poovar Island Resort is a beautiful & well maintained resort that is situated on the backwaters, accessible by their personal boats only. It is around 35 km from Trivendrum and 20 km from Kovalam by road. It takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes from Trivendrum. If you are heading to this resort, please keep in mind that the transit jetty shown in the Goggle Maps is not in use and has been abandoned. Search for the Poovar Island Resort Park 2 which is adjacent to the Kayaloram Resort. The parking area has sufficient room to park around 10 cars, has a waiting area and is manned round the clock. Once the guard is informed of your booking, he informs the resort and a private boat comes to pick you up. However the wait can be upto 30 minutes long. The boat ride is quite enjoyable in itself and takes around 20 minutes. The boats are well maintained and wearing safety jackets is compulsory. Club Mahindra Resort and Pieta sculpture are ***** the way on the left hand side. At the resort, the staff welcomes in the traditional way by garlanding with shell garlands and with an welcome drink. The check in took us around 10 minutes and this can be improved. We were allotted a pond facing room but we didn't like it and we were promptly shifted to a forest facing room. The rooms and bathroom are spacious, well appointed and maintained. The room linens & towels are clean and not worn out. The house keeping staff is very responsive and polite. Unlimited complimentary tea and coffee are served at the garden kiosk in the evening. The sunset looks fantastic from this area. There are plenty of tables, chairs, benches and hammocks to sit and enjoy the views. There are play areas for children to keep them occupied. This resort has two restaurants. Both of them serve buffet as well as a la carte lunch and dinner. Complimentary buffet breakfast is served at the restaurant only. We ordered a la carte dinner at one of the restaurants and would recommend the same. The food was tasty and the quality & quantity were very good. The restaurant manager is a gentleman and his food recommendation are spot on. The buffet breakfast had assorted dishes from North & south India as well as some continental dishes. It is highly recommended not to miss breakfast. The pool in the resort is open from 7 in the morning till evening. It is closed by the sunset. There is no instructor or coach available at the pool. This resort contains an Ayurvedic Village with in itself and special packages are available for it. Free WiFi is available in the resort but the signal is very weak at the remote parts of the resort, where our room was located. Some of the rooms like ours have a balcony and it feels refreshing to drink tea or coffee sitting there in the morning. The sunrise view is not great because the sun rises from the backside. However it feels great to walk around the property in the morning with various birds chirping and small animals like squirrels freely roaming around amidst the lush gre
