I booked a private room in April; it had basic amenities and was sufficient. The weather was chilly, but the heating was easy to use and effective. The hostel was easy to find and just a 5-6 minute walk, thanks to the shortcut through the shopping mall outside Utrecht Centraal, which they informed me about via email after my booking. The common areas are peaceful and comfortable, perfect for reading, studying, or chatting with friends. I especially loved their breakfast—it was rich and reasonably priced at the same time. Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient. The staff is young and dynamic, and every team member, from the housekeepers to the bar and reception staff, did a great job. The location is unbeatable—central and very walkable. The neighbourhood was lively, but I didn't have any noise issues, either inside or outside the hostel. The team and management care about sustainability and green practices, which was a big plus.

Stayed here as the party leader on a school Music Tour with 71 students and 10staff. Ideal for us and would happily stay again. Modern rooms and clean bathrooms, small communal space on the 1st floor, plenty of food for breakfast, central location for getting out and about. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. The place had a young trendy vibe which our teenagers appreciated. Thanks for looking after us so well.

We stayed in room 104 on April 28-30. The floors must be thin because I could hear people walking in the room above ours. Because the light in the bathroom was motion-activated, it turned on automatically when opening the door at night, potentially waking my partner. Pros - bamboo toilet paper, location Cons - noise from above, motion sensor light in bathroom, no tables, no shelf in shower

Excellent location. Clean, easy to get to from Centraal train station. Cross the main blvd. to find yourself in a great food district. Lots of places to eat & drink. We enjoyed our stay. Why not 5 stars? No bath mat. The bathroom floor gets very wet after a shower. Only one towel per person (no hand towels no bath mats).

The newly renovated Food and Beverage area is very spacious with a nice design. You can easily work there with a laptop during the day and they also provide really good lunch! The location is outstanding, right at De Neude. Could be very chill to sit there for an evening drink as they are the only place that provides some lounge chairs to sit at semi-outdoor at the plaza.

Best thing about this hostel is the location, 10 mins by bus from the train station, and very central to the nightlife and bars etc. We had a comfort room for 2 people, at the back of the hotel, the bed were comfortable, although only 1 small pillow, 1 towel is included, but no hand towel for drying hand. the room we had was on the 3rd floor, with limited head space with the slanted windows. So not good if your tall. With black out blinds Although a hostel it is not cheap to stay here… over €100 per night, for that you get room, and towel with showergel… no coffee/tea, no aircon or fan, no hairdryer. The time we visited was particularly warm, so we had to open windows, and due to central location, it was very noisy outside ….people outside laughing and talking till 3-4am, then the street cleaners at approximately 6am. If you do decide to stay here, you need to use ear plugs.

2.5 ⭐ Although location and style of the Stayokay Hostel is great, there are a lot improvements that need to be made. I booked a 2-Person Comfort Room for 4 nights. When I went to check-in, there was clearly some confusion when the staff requested for my passport for identification purposes as it took a long time to find my booking. Once we were given our key-cards to enter our room, we noticed that the room we were given was for 4 people. This room in particular was fully based inside the building, if you opened the curtain you would just see the hallway. Maybe it is just the style of the hostel, but this was not for me, I was expecting an outside view as I had paid extra for a 2-Person Comfort Room. To double check, I went down to reception to confirm if the room we had been given was actually intended for me and not for someone else for 4 people. I was confirmed that this was in fact my room. A few hours later, we had received a notice that there was signs that I had not actually paid for my room, I went to reception and provided them all the necessary documentation that I had in fact had a booking and fully paid in advance. Upon returning back to the hostel after a day of touring, I was stopped by a staff to speak to a manager. There had seem to be some mix-up which I was actually given another room for a person with the same surname as myself. Due to this situation, we were told that we were going to get given our actual intended room, but this would require us to stay over the room we had been given for the night, re-pack our belongings, check-out; and then re-check back into our room. Althought annoyed by the inconvenience now, I appreciate the staff was trying to remediate what they could do. Staying in the first room we had been given was difficult to sleep in. Although I expect their to be noise if your in a shared room, I did not realise the amount of noise I would hear outside of the room. There was a lot of kids running around screaming which made it difficult to sleep. It clearly shows that these rooms aren't very soundproof for external noise. The next day after we had checked-out, we returned back to the hostel to check-in to our new room. The new key-card we were given did not even work on our room and the elevator; this was also the same situation with the room next to us. At this point, my time at Stayokay was just becoming a nuisance now. Finally once we got access to our intended room, it was a clear better experience but there was two signs of uncleanliness I was very put off from. The ceiling and lights had a thick layer of dust, it was clear that the room had not been properly deep cleaned; when I informed the staff they said they would sort it when we get back. Upon returning to the room, they did attempt to remove the thick layer of dust from the ceiling but did not bother with the lamp shade (Refer to pictures). The hotel / hostel is located an easy walking distance to to the train station in the old town opposite the library. . The room was small with 2 single beds and was quiet, clean and comfortable . There is no TV, no hair dryer, no fridge, no kettle. We were in a hotel room for 2 which had no bath mat, 2 towels, and the only bathroom amenities were a plastic cup, body wash and hand soap. The bathroom was clean and large with a good shower and lighting. There is a basic breakfast buffet on offer and in the evenings you can sit downstairs in the bar/restaurant and use the free wifi. There are lots of restaurants, cafes and supermarkets close by.There is an elevator, washing machines and a place to store luggage. We used Utrecht as a base to visit De Haar Castle and the Kroller Muller museum.It's really a hostel with private rooms.
