Casa Marlene by Casa Tía Micha

This is a hidden gem. It is conveniently located near the Plaza e Parque Francisco Canton. We stayed in the family room and it was perfect. It came with a king size bed and two double beds. Breakfast was included and to my surprise it was a sit down and be served kind of breakfast not a continental breakfast that is laid out for guest to serve themselves. The AC worked great, the only room without AC was the second bathroom upstairs but we did us it much during the heat of the day, it was fine at night. The employees were all so kind and mainly speak Spanish. Valladolid is an hour behind Cancun which was a surprise to me so keep in mind when thinking about check in time.

So this is the third time I have stayed at this property - obviously I like it. A few highlights: 1. Welcoming staff - they remembered me from last year. 2. Beautiful garden area for breakfast and relaxing; beautifully and typically decorated common areas. 3. Large rooms with fridge, bathrobe, good wifi, that are quiet at night. 4. Unbeatable location right off the main square. 5. Delicious and huge included breakfast. This place is wonderful value for money. My only suggestions are that they move away from single use toiletries and do wall mounted bottles; adding conditioner would be especially nice. Also, this is an old building, and sometimes that shows. I find it pretty charming, but some people like new everything. I hope to return next year!

We chose the Casa Tía Micha primarily because of its location, which is just off the main square/park in Valladolid (Parque Principal Francisco Cantón Rosado). It proved to be a serendipitous choice, both in terms of its colonial architecture and 'secret garden' as well as the lovely staff and the quality of the food in the associated restaurant (called La Crujía). The entrance to Casa Tía Micha is relatively discreet but once through the lobby you discover the house and grounds are actually quite extensive. Our rooms (the Santa Ana suite) were pretty quiet despite being so central - the only noticeable noises were some birds early in the morning and occasionally the bells of the nearby cathedral of San Servacio. The rooms were fine. Air-conditioning was available but we found that the ceiling fan was sufficient while we were there. The furniture and decor were in keeping with the colonial style of the house but ideally the room would have benefitted from having a sofa. Breakfasts were a delight. In good weather its possible to eat in the verdant garden whereas in bad weather (it rained heavily on a couple of days when we were there) La Crujía Restaurante is available. There was a choice of light (fruit, granola and yoghurt plus pancakes or crepes) and traditional mexican breakfasts accompanied by traditional or Mexican spiced coffee or tea if you prefer. There seemed to something different on offer on each of the six days we ate there. The food at dinner was also good. The menu was relatively simple, with just starters and main courses, but the food was cooked to a high standard. Last, but definitely not least, the staff at La Casa Tía Micha were superb. Maria has trained them well and they made every effort to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

Charming small hotel with incredibly friendly staff. The back courtyard where the breakfast is served is like a tropical oasis. Two small pools and multiple lounging areas were never crowded. There are many different types of rooms, we were in the honeymoon suite on the upper floor. Highly recommend. I would absolutely return here on a future visit. Gracias to all of staff for making our stay special. The entrance is a bit tricky, but just take a look on Google maps ahead of time to see what the entrance looks like.

This hotel is in an excellent location, right on the main square, very central with the benefit of free parking. The parking area was very welcome as the surrounding roads are very busy and were pleased we had somewhere off the road to leave our rental car. We were not caught out but a couple of times we came back and took the last spot, and a car park full sign was put out behind us. So worth noting a space is not guaranteed. Despite the central location the room was very quiet as was in the central courtyard, we were never disturbed by noise. The courtyard garden is beautiful and very nicely kept, a little oasis in the heart of the busy town. We enjoyed being able to escape back here after sightseeing and cool off in the plunge pool/jacuzzi. Plentiful food and drink options within a few minutes walk. Staff were very friendly and hospitable and helped us with recommendations for local places to eat and drink. Breakfast was a 3 course affair, no menu as such, just got whatever they were making that day but it was all very nice. Was very good value. The room was very traditional in style, which was fine, but a little dated and very dark. Particularly the bathroom. Only real downside was we found the bed incredibly hard, mattress was not soft at all. Although appreciate that’s personal preference. There was a fridge in the room which was great to keep drinks cold. Hotel also offered a 10% discount for cash payment. Overall this is a great hotel, would thoroughly recommend if staying in the area, an ideal base for exploring.
