The San Vio Palace is located in the Dorsoduro part of Venice. As first time visitors to Venice, we had no concept of the neighborhood but according to Google Maps it was not as close to Piazza San Marco. It is close to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum (a must see) and the Accademia and the neighborhood is lively and not nearly as overrun with tourists (Piazza San Marco is!). We were traveling with a total of 6 people, including grandma! Pros: Great location, and central to several historical and beautiful places - it is about a 15-20 minute walk to Piazza San Marco, a 5-7 minute walk to the Peggy Guggenheim museum. There is a small kitchenette with a refrigerator, a dishwasher, electric kettle, and some basics including coffee, tea and snacks. We let our girls roam around the neighborhood, and they were happy to enjoy an Aperol Spritz and a gelato without mom & dad hovering. Cons: The amenities, linens, towels are by no means luxury despite its name, and there is no elevator so depending on your floor, be prepared to lug your luggage a few flight of stairs (probably not great for families with small children or babies, especially if you need a stroller, or anyone who may be mobility challenged but a decent place with kids who are at least 8+ to teens), depending on when you leave in the day, be prepared to see a bag of laundry in the middle of the staircase as clean up for a unit was occurring - not necessarily an issue since it easy to get around but not something you would expect with the word "luxury" in its name. Tips: We opened the windows - great to get fresh air! We also woke up the next morning with mosquito bites (we traveled in late May); there is no conditioner - shampoo and body wash only, and as a family of girls with long hair, this was a bit of an issue so bring conditioner if that is part of your routine. The sister property - Nani Mocinego Palace is a short walk (less than 5 minutes) where you can store your luggage if you arrive early. There is an ATM a few doors down and close to an excellent chicchetti place (the staff in the hotel can tell you where it is, just past the ATM).
