296 Heritage Apartments

Rooms are big and come with powerful air-conditioning for the summer. The view out of the common terrace on the 3rd floor was fantastic for a sunset view. There’s option to store your luggage and plenty of dining options on the same street

Sophia was at the hotel reception when we checked In. she welcomed us with a big smile and explained effectively the hotel rules. when we came to the room we asked for 2 single blankets for the bed instead the big one. No problem answered Sophia in the reception, and after 2 minutes she came with the blankets, she took the big one, and she herself arranged the blankets in the bad. Later, the bathroom was flooded with water by mistake. We called the reception to Sophia, she came immediately to see, and after 2 minutes she returned with tool and dried the bathroom. We were at the hotel for 3 nights and every time we passed near the reception Sophia was there interested our wellbeing with her big smile. But if you think you've seen everything of Sophia you're wrong . just before we had to do checkout , we got a massage from the airline that out flight back home delayed for tomorrow. sophia told us that the hotel is fully booked , but she took out problem into her own hands and found us another hotel 200 meters away, and then, without asking us, she took in her hands our 2 suitcases, walked with it to the new hotel and we are after her. when we got there we found there is no elevatore and the reception was on the second floor. Sophia raised in her own hands our 2 suitcases upstairs to the reception!!! We are around the age of 70. Sophia is a valuable asset to the hotel. Thank you again Sophia, you are magnificent and as I told you, you have a very very big heart. doron.

The location offers amazing and unobstructed views of Porto (on Gaia right at the River Douro bank). Literally a few minutes walk to the “Ponte Luís I” bridge. Make sure you book a River View Room/apartment (the views out those windows are spectacular at any time of the day (sunrise to sunset). Again: book a River view unit - it’s worth it!

Upon my arrival, I immediately noticed the presence of roaches in the room. I promptly informed the staff, requesting immediate action to address the issue. However, the response I received was dismissive, with the staff member saying, "roaches are going to the river." Subsequently, I returned home at night in a worse state. Not only was there a consistent dripping sound from the water, suggesting a plumbing issue, but I also encountered numerous BIG and small roaches throughout the premises. Despite my attempts to seek assistance from the lobby, there was no staff present initially, exacerbating my frustration. When a member of the restaurant staff and lobby desk staff eventually came, their response was equally inadequate. Rather than addressing the pest problem effectively, I was informed that any treatment would agitate the roaches further, exacerbating the situation. As a paying guest who chose this establishment based on its reputation for luxury and quality, I am deeply disappointed by the substandard conditions I have encountered. I complained and showed the videos and photos and they said they cant compensate anything. Just refund the next day room and get new hotel.

Excellent in every way. Spectacular view of Porto overlooking the Douro River near the bridge, very comfortable bed, clean & spacious bathroom, a cozy kitchenette in the living room, and a continental breakfast feast delivered to your room every morning. We were in room 20 for three nights & loved every moment.

Perfect location - being located on the Gaia side of the river Douro, the hotel provides the perfect view of porto Skyline. *just make sure you book a riverview room on upper floors*. If you wish to get new towels or new sheets or have the rooms cleaned on daily basis, you would need to inform the reception downstairs so, as the this place provides serviced apartments. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Do not let the name fool you, 296 Heritage Apartments is truly a hotel. Desk staff and cleaning services are limited. Otherwise, you'll find spacious rooms with easy access to the cities of Porto & Gaia. As I said, service is limited. If you do not arrive during staffed hours, you'll have to work with the restaurant next store to call the staff. That was not a problem as I arrived during normal business hours. I found the 5 euro per person per day tax, payable up front and in cash only a bit shady, but it seems to be legit. Keep it in mind! The rooms are very big. This hotel was my second in Europe on this trip but by far the larger room. A full bedroom is set next to a kitchenette / living room and a adequate sized bathroom with shower. The water pressure was nice, however, I found the temperature controls for the water was limited. However, the ACs worked wonderfully. Location wise, if you are visiting Porto, you'll find yourself walking over the bridge at least daily, however, there is plenty to do in Gaia as well. The hotel is literally squeezed between two restaurants and on the river, so even if you are not interested in walking far, you'll find places to visit. Should I find myself back in Porto, I will certainly look up availabilities here before testing elsewhere.

Likes: Breakfast was excellent - high quality/quantity for €8 - location right 'in the butter hole' by the Douro River (Louis I bridge) - Everything in walking distance - small supermarket with basic goods - restaurants etc. We stayed in apartment #20 with separate bedroom and small balconies directly next to the river with beautiful view to Porto. - From the roof terrace a nice evening view over the Douro and Porto C. - The hotel remembered both a birthday and our wedding anniversary and had decorated the apartment - to great surprise - thank you so much :-) Dislikes: The cleaning was quite ok - however, the ad says that cleaning is done every day - it is only every other day; but fine for our needs. - If you are into quiet surroundings, the place is not here. - Restaurants and buskers play music on weekends until 11 pm - and other days until 10 pm.
