We went in the middle of Oct for leaf-peeping and exploring this area of the South Dakota. We stayed in the Lodge and really enjoyed ourselves in our cabin like room. Comfortable beds, fluffy towels, plenty of hot water; we had a kitchenette which had everything we needed. The location is perfect for visiting Rushmore, Custer State Park & Crazy Horse memorial. Very attentive owners! Only disappointed when we found out that breakfast (donuts) was only offered on the weekend, because we were visiting at the end of the season. Would still give 5 stars!

OMG! This place is absolutely amazing! The hosts are incredibly friendly and accommodating. The cabins are so homey and comfy…I would highly recommend staying at this beautiful lodge. If we get back to SD we will definitely stay here again! Thank you Cary and Melissa - you made our stay one we will never forget!

I choose this property because of its location and the option to have a cabin, but still have a few hotel like amenities. We stayed in a duplex cabin for 3 nights. Everything we needed was there. My children enjoyed the pool on a 100 degree day and loved the donuts for breakfast each morning. We adults enjoyed the adult beverage on check in. The owners were fantastic and fun to talk to. I needed an iron one day and they delivered it up to our cabin. The location was great, literally in the middle of everything. It still takes like 20-30 min to get anywhere (because of the hills), but we went all the way up to Spearfish Canyon and down through the southern part of Custer State Park and it was a pretty easy drive. We would stay here again.

From the moment we parked the car, we were “home”. The attention to detail in the most comfortable room with fireplace, was amazing. The owners, Cary and Melissa ,were onsite with amazing welcoming smiles. This couple could not do enough to make your stay more enjoyable. The lodge itself is situated in close proximity to Custer, Keystone, Rapid City and beautiful Mt Rushmore. The morning coffee, bagels, cinnamon buns and other delicacies were fresh and good. There are BBQ’S and a pizza oven for your use on a partially covered deck with tables. If you are looking for a sparkling clean place to stay, don't drive by. Stop by! You so t be disappointed

At first was unsure,but this motel is a gem. Good bed, good towels, good breakfast. Nice balcony to sit and enjoy the view. The family who runs the motel tries to please.One of our best nights on a week long trip.close to both Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument. Close to dining in Hill

My wife and I arrived at the Mountain view lodge without a reservation (as our booked motel had a water heater mishap) We arrived for a two nights stay Apr 12th & 13th. The owners were so friendly and inviting that we knew we picked the right place. The room was very clean & roomy for the two of us. If we are ever back to this area we would definitely stay here again!

We visited South Dakota for the first time last week. We chose the Mountain View Lodge because of its proximity to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. We arrived late, after the office was closed but the owners left the door of our room unlocked and the lights on. We were thrilled with how lovely the room was. It was small but super clean and comfortable. We loved the rustic decor. We were in awe when we woke up to the glorious view! Most mornings there was coffee and donuts available. We will definitely be back!

Room was ok. Office wasn't open when it was supposed to be. Wasn't coffee and donuts in the morning as advertised in the guide in the room. Outside of the peak season so I guess taking our money was an inconvenience. Checkout time apparently was 10:30. 11 is pretty standard for the industry so that's what we were shooting for. At 10:37 a man knocked on the door and was rude to my wife and told her we needed to be out ASAP and we were late. She said we would be out in ten minutes and he said he that wasn't fast enough. He must have had better things to do with his Saturday than do his job. This poor customer service and lack of hospitality is inexcusable. I realize it's not your peak season but if my business is an inconvenience then don't bother staying open. I'll be sure to spread the word to stay literally anywhere else.

Mountain View Lodge is a gem in the Black Hills. Owners Cary and Melissa have created a home away from home for their guests. The attention to details inside the rooms was a pleasant surprise. Bed and linens were high quality and comfortable. Loved the plush grey towels, opposed to the traditional white. There is a beautiful patio area off the upstairs patio with gas grills, pizza oven and tables. Was a great area to have a meal or just a cocktail after a long day. We highly recommend staying here in the Hill City area. The only minor drawback to keep in mind are the stairs and rooms and bathrooms are on the small side. I did not feel this warranted a negative review as other features override this issue. Just keep this in mind if you need space. Thank Cary and Melissa for a great stay!
